SQUIRREL REMOVAL, DONE RIGHT
Squirrel Removal, Done the Right Way
Most companies will trap a squirrel and leave. That never ends it — another squirrel finds the same open hole within days. We handle squirrels like the structural problem they are: find every entry point, remove the animals, seal the structure with wildlife-grade materials, and repair the damage they caused. That’s the difference between a squirrel gone this week and squirrels gone for good.
Squirrels don’t just nest — they gnaw constantly on framing, fascia, and wiring, and a chewed wire in a dry attic is a genuine fire risk. The longer they’re in, the bigger the repair bill. Freedom Wildlife Solutions & Pest Control is a Triangle-based, veteran-owned team backed by 500+ five-star reviews, and we handle the whole job — inspection, removal, exclusion, and repair — so you deal with one company and one guarantee, not a trapper today and a handyman next week.
WHY FREEDOM
Why Homeowners Choose Freedom for Squirrel Removal
Squirrels are our most common wildlife call — and the one where sealing the home, not just trapping it, is the difference between a real fix and a callback.
We Seal the Entry Points
Removal is only half the job. We find and seal every gap — roof returns, soffits, gable vents, fascia — with wildlife-grade materials so the next squirrel can't get in.
A Pest Control Company That Specializes in Wildlife
Squirrels are wildlife work. We know the entry points, the behavior, and the exclusion that holds — not a quick trap-and-go.
We Repair the Damage
Chewed entry holes, torn insulation, damaged vents — we restore what squirrels tore up, in-house.
Veteran-Owned & Local
Veteran-owned and operated since 2018, based in Clayton — your neighbors, not a national franchise.
Exclusion Backed by a Warranty
If squirrels get back in through the work we sealed, we come back and fix it.
500+ 5-Star Reviews
Trusted and reviewed by hundreds of central North Carolina homeowners.
Trapping alone is why most squirrel problems come back. We remove them, seal the structure wildlife-grade, and stand behind it — that’s the wildlife removal approach we bring to every job

What Central NC Customers Say
Thank you to Matthew and Daniel for providing us with prompt, friendly and professional service. We live in Raleigh NC and noticed noises coming from bedroom ceiling. Freedom Wildlife Solutions was recommended. They were very prompt in coming out and assessing our situation which to our surprise was squirrels above the attic. They provided us with several solutions. We are very pleased. Thank you again.
Denise R., Raleigh NC
Freedom Wildlife helped us remove squirrels from our attic after months of us finding bits of insulation in our yard, shrubs and driveway. We had no idea why it was happening and ultimately they helped us by identifying squirrels in the attic. David and Chris installed a metal shield around our roofline to prevent them from re-entering and they were very kind and helpful. We appreciate the team at Freedom Wildlife for their customer service

OUR #1 SQUIRREL CALL
Squirrels in the Attic
The attic is where squirrels almost always end up. They get in through roof returns, soffit gaps, gable and ridge vents, and construction gaps near the fascia — often chewing an opening about the size of a baseball. Once inside they nest, chew, and bring in more squirrels. If you’re hearing running or scratching overhead — especially in the morning and late afternoon — you likely have squirrels, not mice.
An attic is ideal for squirrels — warm, dry, protected, and full of insulation to nest in. Females have litters in late winter and again in late summer, so one squirrel quickly becomes several, and they’ll chew the opening bigger or add a second entry to come and go. That’s why timing and method matter: we confirm whether young are present before anything is sealed, remove every squirrel with one-way doors and trapping, verify the attic is clear, then seal the entry points and clean up the mess they left behind.
KNOW THE SIGNS
Signs You Have Squirrels
Most squirrel problems are heard before they’re seen. If any of these sound familiar, call (919) 584-8650 for an inspection.
Noises You Can Hear
- Running, scampering, or rolling sounds in the attic or ceiling — loudest at dawn and late afternoon
- Scratching and gnawing in walls or overhead
- Squirrels are active in the daytime — mice and rats aren’t, which is one way to tell them apart
Things You Can See
- A chewed entry hole (about baseball-sized) near the roofline, soffit, or gable vent
- Bits of insulation in the yard, shrubs, or driveway below an entry point
- Squirrels running the roofline or entering the same spot at dawn/dusk
- Chewed wood, fascia, wires, or vents
- Droppings and torn insulation in the attic
Things You Can Smell
- A musty odor in the attic from droppings and nesting material
- A strong odor over a few days — a dead squirrel in a wall or attic. Call us.
Other Telltale Signs
- Pets fixating on a wall or the ceiling
- Nesting material (leaves, twigs, insulation) packed into an attic corner
- Squirrels nesting under solar panels on the roof
OUR PROCESS
Our Squirrel Removal Process
Getting squirrels out for good is a structured job, and the order matters. Here’s what to expect when Freedom Wildlife Solutions handles your squirrel problem.
1. Thorough Inspection
We inspect the attic, roofline, soffits, and vents, identify every entry point and whether young are present, and document what we find with photos. You get a written quote before any work begins.
2. Removal
We remove the squirrels using one-way doors and trapping as the situation calls for, timed around nesting so young aren’t left behind. We return to confirm the attic is clear before we seal.
3. Exclusion & Seal-Up
The step most companies skip. We seal every entry point — roof returns, soffits, gable vents, fascia gaps — with wildlife-grade materials so the next squirrel can’t use the same opening.
4. Cleanup & Repair
We clean droppings and contaminated material, replace torn insulation, and handle attic remediation in-house where it’s needed.
5. Warranty & Follow-Up
Our exclusion work is backed by a warranty, with photo documentation of the completed job.

SOLAR PANELS
Squirrels Nesting Under Solar Panels
Solar panels are a squirrel’s dream — overhead cover from weather and hawks, open sides for easy access, and warmth. They build nests of pine straw and leaves under the panels, then chew the wiring, which is a real fire risk next to flammable nesting material. We remove the squirrels and install high-quality solar panel critter guards around the array so they can’t get back under.
It’s one of the most common calls we get from Triangle homeowners with rooftop solar — and one of the easiest to prevent. The guards clip around the panel edges without damaging the panels or voiding your solar warranty, and they’re barely visible from the ground. Remove the squirrels once, guard the array, and you’re done.
MORE THAN GRAY SQUIRRELS
Flying Squirrels & Chipmunks, Too
Gray squirrels aren’t the only ones that get in — we handle their two most common cousins, and they each cause a different kind of problem.
Flying Squirrels
Flying squirrels are small, nocturnal, and highly social — they move in colonies, so it’s common to remove 20 or more from a single attic. Because they’re active at night, homeowners often mistake the sound for rats or ‘something in the walls.’ They slip through gaps as small as a quarter, nest deep in insulation, and gnaw wiring like any other squirrel. We identify the colony, remove every one, and seal the entry points so they can’t come back.
Chipmunks
Chipmunks are more than a yard nuisance. They dig extensive burrow systems along foundations, patios, walkways, and retaining walls, and over time that tunneling erodes soil and can undermine slabs, hardscape, and foundation footings. They’ll also work their way into crawlspaces and garages. We trap and remove them, then address the burrows and entry points so they don’t re-establish.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why Squirrels Need to Be Dealt With
Squirrels don’t just make noise — an active infestation does real, escalating damage. Here’s what’s at stake the longer they stay.
Structural Damage
Squirrels gnaw constantly to keep their teeth in check. They chew entry holes larger, tear into fascia, soffits, and vents, and shred insulation for nesting. Left alone, a small opening becomes major damage — and their droppings and urine ruin whatever they nest in.
Fire Risk
This is the one that worries us most. Squirrels chew electrical wiring in the attic, and exposed wire surrounded by dry, flammable nesting material is a genuine fire hazard. Rodents and squirrels are a known cause of attic fires — it's the reason not to wait on an active infestation.
Health Risk
Like any wildlife, squirrels leave droppings that accumulate fast and can carry bacteria and parasites. Contaminated insulation needs to be removed and the space sanitized — which is exactly why our process includes cleanup, not just removal.

FAQ
Squirrel Removal Frequently Asked Questions
Is squirrel removal legal in North Carolina?
Yes, but the allowed methods and timing depend on the species, where the squirrels are, and whether young are present. Gray squirrels are a regulated game species in NC, so a professional makes sure removal and exclusion are done legally and at the right time.
How do you get squirrels out of an attic?
We inspect to find every entry point, remove the squirrels with one-way doors and trapping as needed (timed around nesting), confirm the attic is clear, then seal the openings so they can’t return.
What are the signs of squirrels in the attic?
Daytime running and scratching overhead, a baseball-sized chewed hole near the roofline, bits of insulation in the yard, droppings and torn insulation in the attic, and squirrels seen entering at dawn or late afternoon.
Will squirrels come back after removal?
Not if the entry points are sealed. Removal without exclusion always fails — another squirrel finds the same hole. Our exclusion is backed by a warranty.
Do you seal entry points and repair the damage?
Yes. Once the attic is confirmed clear, we seal the primary entry points with wildlife-grade materials and repair the damage — chewed openings, torn insulation, and vents — so the structure is restored and reinforced.
Can squirrels damage wiring and create a fire risk?
Yes. Squirrels chew wiring, which can cause electrical issues and, in rare cases, fire. If you suspect squirrels in the attic, schedule an inspection quickly.
Do you handle squirrels under solar panels?
Yes. We remove squirrels nesting under panels and install solar panel critter guards around the array to keep them out for good.
Do you handle flying squirrels and squirrels in walls or chimneys?
Yes. Flying squirrels often move in by the dozen and are handled a bit differently; we also remove squirrels from wall voids, ceilings, and chimneys. The approach is the same: find the access route, remove, and seal.
How much does squirrel removal cost, and how long does it take?
It depends on the number of entry points, the level of attic activity, and whether exclusion and repairs are needed — a trap-only job and a full exclusion/repair are very different scopes. We quote after an inspection. Some jobs are quick; others run in stages: inspection, removal, confirmation, then exclusion and repair.
