Expert Snake Removal Company
North Carolina has 38 snake species — 6 are venomous, and copperheads in particular show up in residential yards across the Triangle and Johnston County every spring through fall. Freedom Wildlife Solutions & Pest Control handles venomous and non-venomous snake removal across central NC, with emergency response for active situations and full-property inspections for ongoing prevention. New to us? Meet the team behind our Raleigh wildlife & pest services.
We are veteran-owned and operated, NC-licensed for wildlife handling. Snakes are not just a fear problem — copperhead bites send hundreds of North Carolinians to ERs every year, often kids and pets in the yard. Identification and removal need to happen fast, by someone who can tell a copperhead from a rat snake without guessing.

Snake Species We Encounter in Central NC
Venomous (Six Species in NC)
Copperhead is by far the most common venomous snake we deal with — frequently spotted in mulch beds, woodpiles, and around foundations. Cottonmouth (water moccasin) is rare in central NC but possible near creek systems. Timber rattlesnake, pygmy rattlesnake, eastern coral snake, and eastern diamondback are uncommon in our service area but possible.
Non-Venomous (Most Common Calls)
Rat snakes (often mistaken for copperheads because of size and color pattern) are the snake most people call about. Black racer, eastern garter snake, eastern kingsnake, and brown snakes are all common, non-venomous, and beneficial — but most homeowners want them out of the yard regardless.
How We ID on Site
Head shape, pupil shape, scale pattern, color banding direction. We confirm species before removal — handling a copperhead and handling a rat snake are very different jobs.
How We Remove and Prevent Snakes
Emergency Response
Active snake inside the home or close to children, pets, or pool? Call (919) 584-8650 immediately. We prioritize emergency calls for same-day response when scheduling allows.
Capture and Relocation
Snake-specific tools — hooks, tubes, tongs — handled by licensed technicians. Non-venomous species are released away from the property. Venomous species are removed per NC regulations.
Property Inspection and Prevention
After removal, we walk the property to find what drew the snake in. Stacked rocks, woodpiles, dense ground cover, foundation gaps, and unsealed crawl space vents are all common attractants. We recommend specific habitat modifications and seal entry points where structural.

Snakes are part of a broader yard wildlife picture. Most homes with active snake activity also have rodent or small-mammal activity — see our full wildlife removal program.
One of the most common areas snakes are found in North Carolina homes is in the crawlspace.
Crawlspaces are typically not secured properly to keep snakes and rodents out. If rodent find their way into the crawlspace it typically will not be long until snakes follow them in to get a good meal.
Our team of wildlife experts can help your secure your crawlspace and home to prevent unwanted snakes and rodents.

Frequently Asked Questions About Snake Removal Services
How do you determine whether a snake on my property is venomous or non-venomous?
We identify snakes by body shape, head structure, coloration, movement behavior and location. Tracks, shed skins and entry points also help determine species without direct contact.
What does your snake removal service include?
Your service begins with locating the snake, inspecting hiding spots, identifying how it entered the area and safely removing it. We also evaluate conditions that may encourage future snake presence.
Where do snakes commonly hide around homes or yards?
Snakes often shelter in crawl spaces, woodpiles, overgrown vegetation, mulch beds, foundation gaps, basements and storage areas. They seek shade and cool locations during warm weather and protected spaces when temperatures drop.
What signs indicate that a snake may be living on the property?
You may notice shed skins, unusual movement in vegetation, disappearing frogs or rodents, burrow openings under structures or tracks in dusty areas. Some homeowners also hear movement behind stored items or in crawl spaces.
Why do snakes appear near homes even if you never see them directly?
Snakes follow food sources such as rodents, frogs, insects or small animals. If these prey animals are present around the structure, snakes may stay nearby even if they remain hidden most of the time.
How long does it take to remove a snake once the inspection begins?
Timing varies based on the snake’s location, hiding areas and accessibility. Some are found quickly, while others require further inspection of crawl spaces, gaps or storage areas.
Can snakes return after being removed?
They may return if food sources, shelter or gaps along the foundation remain. We provide recommendations to seal entry points, adjust vegetation and reduce rodent activity to discourage future visits.
What should I do before snake removal service begins?
You can keep pets and children away from the area, avoid disturbing the snake’s hiding place and take note of where you last saw movement. Do not attempt to handle or corner the snake yourself.
