Pest Control & Wildlife Removal Done the Right Way

Wendell is the fastest-growing municipality in North Carolina and the fourth fastest in the country. It went from under 10,000 people in 2020 to roughly 19,700 by 2025 — it doubled. At the same time it became a serious industrial address, with Siemens running a 272,000-square-foot plant, Kioti tractors headquartered here, and another 1.8 million square feet of industrial space coming with the Wendell Commerce Center. We work it out of the Clayton shop, and it is the one town in our area where the commercial book is growing as fast as the residential one.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why Wendell Homes Get Pest and Wildlife Calls

Wendell generates two distinct streams of work, and they come from the same underlying cause: the town is being built out at extraordinary speed.

On the residential side the issue is velocity, not just volume. Doubling a population in five years means whole tracts of woods and field come down inside a single season, and the animals that lived there do not disperse into open country — there isn’t any left nearby. They compress into whatever was built on top of them. At Wendell Falls and the developments off Wendell Falls Parkway we routinely get displaced-animal calls on streets where the last house was finished a few months earlier, from residents who assume a brand-new home cannot have a wildlife problem. It can, and the reason is that a house is sealed to a code inspection standard, not to a squirrel.

On the commercial side, large-footprint industrial buildings are a different discipline entirely. Dock doors that never fully seal, high-bay space that cannot be treated like a living room, pallet storage that gives rodents cover, and employee break areas that generate the food source. Rodent and roach pressure in a 272,000-square-foot plant is managed at the perimeter and the dock line, not with interior baiting, and it needs documentation.

Older Wendell is a third profile. The Wendell Boulevard and Wendell Commercial Historic Districts hold housing and storefronts that predate all of this, with the loose siding and open gable ends that bats and flying squirrels prefer.

WILDLIFE REMOVAL

Wildlife Removal in Wendell

Wendell is the one town on our list where commercial wildlife work rivals residential. Raccoons and opossums lead here because the industrial corridor feeds them year-round and the neighborhoods give them somewhere to den.  Bats and birds are also a common issue with Wendell homeowners and property managers.

Bird Removal

Two completely different bird problems here. In the subdivisions it is exhaust vents — a damper that never closed properly is a sheltered cavity with a warm air supply, and starlings and sparrows find them fast in spring. In the industrial corridor it is structural: open bay doors, high rafters and ledge nesting inside buildings where droppings become a food-safety and slip-hazard issue rather than a nuisance one. Most native birds, their active nests and their eggs are protected under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. That changes what is legal to remove and when. We work around active nests, then close the vent, gap or ledge once the birds have fledged so it does not happen again next spring.

Bat Removal

Bat work in Wendell concentrates in the older housing near the historic districts, where unsealed gable ends and original siding give a colony room to establish. Bats are protected in North Carolina. From May 1 through July 31, flightless pups are in the roost, and sealing a colony out during that window traps and kills them — which is both illegal and a far worse problem inside your wall. We inspect and quote during maternity season and install one-way exclusion devices once it closes. We also do not exclude below 50°F, when bats are torpid and cannot leave on their own.

Squirrels and Flying Squirrel Removal

Squirrel calls in Wendell arrive in waves that follow the earth-moving equipment. A tract comes down, and for the next several months the neighborhood beside it takes the pressure. Entry is almost always high — roof return, gable end, or the seam where two rooflines meet — and on recent construction it is an unfinished detail rather than chewed damage, which means the repair is small if you find it early. Flying squirrels are a separate population living in the older housing near Wendell Boulevard, and they announce themselves at night rather than during the day.

Raccoons and Opossums Removal

A raccoon in Wendell has an unusually good year. Commercial waste along the industrial corridor supplies steady calories no season interrupts, and the surrounding neighborhoods supply denning space. That combination produces bigger, bolder animals than we see in strictly residential towns. Residentially we work attics, chimneys, crawl spaces and under-deck voids. On a commercial site the animal is rarely the problem worth solving — the enclosure, the pad drainage and the corral gate are, and until those change the trapping is a subscription.

Raccoons are why we do so much of this in Wendell. A raccoon does not spread its waste around — it establishes a latrine, almost always in one corner of the insulation, and returns to it for as long as it lives there. That concentrates a heavy, saturated contamination into a small area, and it will not dry out or air out on its own. What follows the trapping is attic remediation — removal of that material, treatment of the framing under it, and fresh insulation across the span it ruined.

Removal gets the animal out. Exclusion closes the way it got in. Every wildlife removal job we run includes both, because doing only the first one guarantees a second call — and the exclusion work carries a warranty.

PEST CONTROL

Pest Control Plans for Wendell Homes

The plan that fits in Wendell tends to depend on which side of the growth the house sits on. Homes in the newer developments are dealing with displacement — whatever lived on that ground before it was a neighborhood, turning up in a house with no history for us to read yet. Properties toward the older parts of town have decades of history and the openings to match. Anything near the industrial corridor carries a level of pressure a purely residential plan will not hold against on its own. We size the plan to the address after we have stood on it.

Three plans. Pick by the pests you want covered, not by how often we show up.

RODENT CONTROL

Rodent Control in Wendell

Rodent control is where Wendell’s two economies diverge most. A house needs one unfinished opening to have a problem, and finding that single point is most of the job. A 272,000-square-foot manufacturing building is the opposite: dozens of known openings that cannot simply be closed because trucks and people have to move through them. There the work is engineering — threshold seals and dock levelers that actually meet the deck, exterior pallet storage pulled off the wall, a maintained vegetation-free strip at the foundation, and a documented device line that survives an audit. Interior baiting inside a plant is a symptom-management strategy and we treat it as one. Rodent coverage is included on Standard Defense and Premium Guard. It is not on Economy Shield.

TERMITE CONTROL

Termite Control and Crawl Space Work in Wendell

A new house is not a protected house indefinitely. Soil treatment applied before the slab went down degrades on a schedule, irrigation installed after closing changes the moisture picture entirely, and scrap lumber buried during construction is a food source sitting against the foundation. Meanwhile the century-old stock near the historic districts carries the conventional risk. Wendell is unusual in having both extremes and very little in between. We do full inspections, liquid barrier treatment, the Trelona bait system, and WDI reports for real estate closings, quoted separately from the recurring plans.

We find most of this work from underneath. On a rodent exclusion or a wildlife job we are already in the crawl space with a light, and that is where the mud tubes, the soft sill plate and the standing moisture turn up. If you are on a plan with us, or we have pulled an animal out of your house before, the termite inspection is a phone call — we already know what your crawl space looks like. And when what is down there turns out to be the real problem — torn vapor barrier, insulation on the ground, water that never leaves and wood that never dries — crawl space encapsulation is the repair, not another treatment.

OUR WENDELL PROCESS

How We Work

We run this same process on every job, but in Wendell the inspection frequently takes in more than the property we were called to. Commercial waste and loading areas along the industrial corridor feed the animal population that the surrounding neighborhoods then deal with, so on a residential call we often end up assessing what is nearby as well as what is on site. Sealing work on the newer builds is usually a matter of closing what the builder left open, and the framing under a deck is the first place we look. Eastern Wake runs on a regular route for us, so the visit to confirm the work held lands quickly rather than weeks out.

Inspection

We walk the structure and the perimeter before we quote anything. On wildlife calls that includes the roofline, the crawl space and the attic — we are looking for the entry point, not just the animal.

Removal or Treatment

Trapping and hand-removal for wildlife, targeted material for insects. We do not blanket-spray a house to solve a problem that lives in one void.

Exclusion or Prevention

Removal without exclusion is a repeat call. We seal the gaps, vents, returns and foundation penetrations the animal used, in materials it cannot chew through.

Cleanup and Follow-Up

Droppings, nesting material and contaminated insulation come out. We come back to confirm the work held.

Warranty

Our exclusion work is warrantied. If something gets back in the same way, we come back and fix it.

REVIEWS

What Wake County Customers Say

Had some bats that needed to be removed along with some other services. David, Blaize, and Matthew did a great job of explaining what needed to be done. These guys were friendly, professional, and did quality work. Would highly recommended them to anyone.

Zachary Farnsworth, Wake County, NC

Had a good experience with their wildlife control. They got a few squirrels out of my attic and patched up all the entry points for what felt like a fair price. The guys Blaize and Matthew who came out to do the work showed up on time and were super professional and did a great job. Blaize did several trap checks and kept in good contact with me. Would recommend!

WHY FREEDOM

Why Wendell Homeowners Call Freedom Wildlife Solutions & Pest Control

Very few companies this side of the county handle a homeowner’s attic and a manufacturer’s dock line with the same crew, and in Wendell that matters more than it does anywhere else we work. A town adding 1.8 million square feet of industrial space alongside thousands of houses needs a vendor who can document a commercial program and still show up for a squirrel in a gable — without handing either job to a subcontractor.

One call for both

Most companies in this market do pest control or they do wildlife. We do both, with the same crew and the same phone number — which matters when the mice in the kitchen turn out to be using the same gap the squirrels did.

Veteran-owned and locally run

Freedom Wildlife Solutions & Pest Control is veteran-owned, fully licensed and insured in North Carolina, and run out of Clayton — not a franchise desk in another state.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Pest and Wildlife Services in Wendell

How quickly can you get to my Wendell property?

Wendell is on a regular eastern Wake County route for us. For an animal already inside a living space, or an active problem at a commercial site, we treat it as same-day.

Yes. Warehouse, manufacturing and distribution space is a growing part of our Wendell work, including perimeter and dock-line rodent programs and documented recurring service.

Because a house is sealed to pass an inspection, not to stop an animal — and the clearing that made room for your street displaced everything that used to live on it. In a town growing this fast, recent construction is where a large share of our wildlife calls come from. It is usually one unfinished detail high on the structure, and caught early it is a small repair.

No. Wildlife, pest, termite and crawl space inspections are free. A WDI report for a real estate closing is a separate paid product.

We inspect and quote year-round, but a colony cannot be sealed out between May 1 and July 31 — maternity season, when flightless pups are in the roost. We also do not exclude below 50°F.

Both, and the commercial side of Wendell is growing quickly. We run documented recurring programs for warehouse, manufacturing and distribution space, including dock-line rodent work and the record-keeping an audit requires.
