Angier has a pest profile shaped by its landscaping and its position between two counties.
Start with the crepe myrtles, because they are genuinely a pest driver and not just scenery. Crepe myrtles are aphid magnets, and in recent years crepe myrtle bark scale has spread through North Carolina as well. Both insects excrete honeydew, honeydew grows black sooty mold on everything underneath it, and honeydew is also why you will find ant trails running up the trunk — the ants farm the aphids and protect them. A homeowner usually calls about the black film on their deck, their siding or their car, not about aphids. The second factor is that Angier grew fast — from roughly 3,400 residents in 2000 to over 5,200 by 2020 — while staying surrounded by farmland and woods. That edge is where the wildlife pressure comes from, and it is also why we get more snake calls here than in the towns closer to Raleigh. Fields, tree lines, outbuildings and the transition zone behind newer subdivisions are exactly the habitat.

Bats
Older frame homes near downtown and farm structures on the outskirts both give colonies the unsealed gable ends and loose siding they need. Bats are protected in North Carolina. Mature trees along the roadways put branches over a lot of rooflines here. Squirrels enter at the roof return, gable vent and loose soffit, and flying squirrels use gaps most people would not think an animal could fit through.
Raccoons and Opossums
Barns, sheds and open crawl spaces on the properties out from the center of town are easy shelter. On homes we work attics, crawl spaces, chimneys and deck voids; on outbuildings the fix is usually structural.
Snakes
Field edges, tree lines, wood piles and outbuildings give snakes cover and a rodent food supply, and the transition zone behind newer neighborhoods is prime habitat. We identify the species first, because the answer for a black rat snake and the answer for a copperhead are not the same.
